Buttock lipofilling in Tunisia: procedure, results and prices

Buttock lipofilling, also called BBL, involves harvesting your own fat to reinject it into the buttocks and improve their curve. It is the most viewed body-contouring procedure on this site, and the same questions come up often: who it is for, how it works, what results, at what price. This article answers them simply, without promising a result. Only a clinical examination can say what is possible in your case.

Lipofilling uses your own fat to reshape the curve of the buttocks, without an implant or foreign material.

What buttock lipofilling is

The principle is based on a fat transfer. The surgeon harvests fat where it is in excess, for example the belly, the hips, the back or the thighs, prepares it, then reinjects it into the buttocks in small distributed amounts. The benefit is twofold: fat is removed from an area you want to slim down, and it is used to reshape another. Since it is your own tissue, there is no implant or foreign material.

It is an alternative to buttock implants when you are looking for a moderate augmentation and a more natural curve rather than a large volume.

Who it is for, and who it is not indicated for

Buttock lipofilling is intended for people who find their buttocks too flat, sagging or asymmetrical, and who have a little fat to harvest elsewhere. This last point is important: without enough fat reserve, the technique quickly reaches its limits.

Some situations call for caution or postpone the project: pregnancy or breastfeeding, an ongoing infection, unbalanced coagulation disorders, unrealistic expectations, or general health that is not stabilised. It is the role of the consultation and the pre-operative assessment to decide, case by case.

How the procedure works

The operation is performed under general anaesthesia, or sometimes local depending on the case, and generally lasts around two to three hours. It breaks down into three stages:

  1. The harvesting of fat by liposuction on the areas agreed with you.
  2. The preparation of this fat to keep only the cells useful for the graft.
  3. The reinjection into the buttocks, through fine cannulas, in many small passes for an even result.

A night of observation is often planned after the procedure.

Safety: a point to understand

Buttock lipofilling carries the risks of any surgery (haematoma, infection, asymmetry), and a risk specific to it, fat embolism. It can occur if fat is injected too deeply, into the muscle, or in too large a volume.

Prevention is now well established: the fat is reinjected into the plane located above the muscle, never deep within the muscle, and some surgeons use ultrasound guidance to direct the cannula. The amount reinjected is also controlled, because beyond a certain volume the resorption rate and the risks increase. These precautions are among the reasons why the choice of surgeon matters so much.

Recovery and aftercare

The recovery requires patience and a little organisation. The harvesting areas are often more sensitive than the buttocks themselves. A compression garment is worn for several weeks, and a treatment to prevent the risk of phlebitis is generally prescribed.

The instruction that surprises the most: avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for about three weeks, favouring lying on the stomach or on the side, so as not to compress the graft while it takes. Time off is often counted in one to four weeks, and the return to sport is pushed back by several weeks. These durations are indicative and depend on your case and on the instructions that will be given to you in writing.

What results to expect

Part of the reinjected fat is resorbed during the first months. The graft uptake varies from one person to another, often between 70 and 100 %, which explains why the surgeon sometimes slightly overcorrects at the start. The result begins to take shape at around three to six months, and you should rather wait about a year to judge the stabilised appearance.

Once the graft has taken, the result is lasting, because the fat is alive and integrated. It can however change with weight: a significant loss or gain alters the volume of the buttocks as it does the rest of the body. No result can be guaranteed in advance; the objective is defined with you according to your anatomy.

Price benchmarks

The prices reported in the sector vary depending on the clinic, the extent of the liposuction and the stay offered. As a purely indicative guide, you often see ranges of the order of 2 000 to 4 500 € circulating in Tunisia for a buttock augmentation by lipofilling, sometimes with accommodation. These are market benchmarks, not a firm price.

The amount that concerns you depends on your body shape, the number of areas to treat and the operating time. It can only be seriously set after a consultation, in the form of an estimate. Be wary of a "by volume" price announced without any examination.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result of buttock lipofilling permanent?

Part of the fat is resorbed in the first months. What remains after the graft has taken is lasting, but can vary with weight. The appearance is judged at around one year.

Is it painful?

The recovery is mainly marked by discomfort at the harvesting areas and by the need not to sit directly for about three weeks. Pain is managed and generally remains bearable.

What is the difference with buttock implants?

Lipofilling uses your own fat for a natural curve and a moderate augmentation. Implants provide a more marked volume but involve a foreign body. The choice depends on your objectives and your body shape.

Do you need a lot of fat to be a candidate?

You need a sufficient reserve to harvest elsewhere. If it is too small, the technique reaches its limits, and other options can be discussed in consultation.
